Guidance Department

The assistance given by the Guidance Department is vital to the development of the student’s positive self-concept.
Guidance counseling is a service provided for all students. It is ongoing and available at anytime upon request.
These services include assistance with educational planning, occupational and career information, test interpretation and academic and personal counseling.

The counselors work very closely with faculty, parents and community agencies.

PSAT/NMSQT Information

Students take the PSAT/NMSQT qualifying exam in October during their 9th and 10th grade years. Scores are reported to the guidance office, and the guidance counselor meets with students to explain their scores and to give more information about academic opportunities beyond high school. For more information, see this letter to parents.

Applying to College

Most Cab Calloway students continue their education at colleges, universities or other post-high school academic institutions.

The high school guidance counselor offers extensive information to guide students and their parents through the process of applying to college, including testing information and dates, the Academic Common Market, the Common Application, and monthly "senior bulletins" listing scholarships, college open houses, and job information.
